About Us

The mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation is saving lives through cancer prevention and early detection.

When the Prevent Cancer Foundation was started in 1985, the concept of cancer prevention and early detection was not widely embraced by the medical community or the general public. Today, cancer prevention and early detection is at the forefront of reducing cancer diagnoses and death. We have played a key role in changing this perception.

The Foundation focuses its resources on cancers such as breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, oral, prostate, skin and testicular that can prevented through lifestyle changes or early detection and treatment. In addition to these 8 cancers there are many other preventable cancers like anal, endometrial, head and neck, oral, penile, throat and vulvar cancers.

The Foundation has invests in research, education, advocacy and community outreach programs nationwide in support of our mission of saving lives through cancer prevention and early detection.

Voluntary donations from individuals, foundations and corporations have helped fund research grants to nearly 450 scientists at over 150 leading medical institutions across the country. Our public education programs have applied this scientific knowledge to teach the public on ways they can reduce their cancer risks.

Funds raised through the Prevent Cancer 5K Walk/Run support our four areas of focus:

Research

Education

Outreach

Advocacy
